About Brian

Brian is a native of Sussex County. Born to Ray and Barbara Pettyjohn, Brian grew up on a farm just outside of Georgetown. After graduating from Sussex Central High School, Brian moved to the Newark area to pursue studies at the University of Delaware. Afterwards, Brian began his professional career in New Castle County, moving back to Georgetown in 2000.

Brian has always held an interest in community service and politics; starting with working on Congressman Mike Castle’s re-election campaign for Governor in 1988, and his Congressional Campaigns starting in 1992. Brian has also volunteered for various local candidates including Senator Joe Booth and Representatives Dave Wilson and Ruth Briggs-King. Brian was a member of the Georgetown Town Council from 2008 to 2010, when he was elected as Mayor of Georgetown. While serving on Council as both a Councilman and Mayor, Brian has encouraged financial responsibility, effective use of resources and using technological tools to improve efficiency in Town operations. Brian has supported smart, managed growth of the Town, development of commercial and retail space that will be of convenience to the Town and surrounding areas, as well as developer responsibility for areas that have been built.
